Sewing, Stitching and Handcraft Show
Let your Fingers and Imagination Fly with Creative and Crafty Activities.
It is the most loved feature at the Autumn Home Show and this year's Sewing, Stitching and Handcraft show is packed full of lessons, tips, techniques and materials to help you become the ultimate handcraft expert.
Browse the many stands with hands-on displays of the latest equipment or watch the schedule of demonstrations by our experts, including the Godmother of New Zealand handcrafts, Julie Van der Putten – a.k.a Puddles.
"The Display of Yesteryear" will be showcasing a range of antique sewing machines - including miniatures, antique lace, sewing paraphernalia and many other interesting pieces from the past.
Preserving the heritage of traditional arts and crafts there are six activities per day on a range of topics:
- Felt Craft, learn how to make felt and create stunning pictures from this unique and versatile material. Taught by the talented team from Creative Fibres.
- The Fabulous Fibres Fashion Parade is a must see for all! Suits, hats, bags, and children’s apparel all created out of wacky materials such as alpaca fibre. Also presented by Creative Fibres.
- Julie Van der Putten presents the ‘One of a Kind journal’ workshop at midday. She will show you how to create a gorgeous journal that reflects your personality. Great for your own use or as a thoughtful gift.
- Sew Environmental look at the high consumer use of plastic bags and showcase their unique handmade bags such as their ‘Green Bag.’ All handmade and sewn from natural materials.
- Tinkering Tools run the ‘It’s About Time’ workshops and will show you how to make a beautiful watch using beads, sliders and Swarovski crystals.
- Kalsbeek Creative Crafts go through Embossing on Parchment. Create beautiful and delicate detail on your cards using an embossing stencil. They have kits available for purchase so there’s no end to what you can craft.
The Autumn Home Show will give you plenty of inspiration and ideas, so make sure your fingers are nimble and get ready to get crafty and go create!
