Inspirational Interiors to Beat the Recession

With a theme of ‘No recession here, pessimists turn back’, the Designer Feature Rooms at the Autumn Home Show are a great place to marvel at the scope and effect great interior design can offer to a space, your mood and your lifestyle.

We've challenged four design companies to create a room each with design and interiors to defy the global recession. Leading interior design companies DesignWorx, Designs for Living, Nicola Manning Interiors and Sugar Monkey Interior Design have accepted the challenge and will bring their best recession-busting talents and passion to create creative spaces just for the show.

Amanda Neill - Designworx

The designers include Amanda Neill, an interior designer from Auckland based company Designworx whose passion and forte is colour; how it can create different responses and emotions. Her extensive design training, and experience in the residential and commercial interior market in London, Sydney and in New Zealand has given her the inspiration and experience to learn all there is to know about interior design.  

Nicola Manning - Nicola Manning Interiors

Nicola Manning from Nicola Manning Interiors will be creating a room in partnership with Vanessa McNaught from Lake Road Interior Design.  Nicola’s belief is that functionality is just as important as the aesthetic and her approach is to pay careful attention to space and the way you use your living spaces or would like to use them. Peruse the room Nicola and Vanessa have created, highlighting both current trends in interiors and fashion while also balancing this with a timeless style and functionality.

Ann Foster - Designs for Living

Ann Foster from Designs for Living, is passionate about creating interior spaces that make people look forward to returning home, building nurturing spaces that you'll love being in.  Ann takes this passion and applies it to her work, whilst paying close attention to the details and finishing touches, making sure nothing is overlooked. She plans to design a room that will be an inspiring sanctuary from the recessionary world outside.

Sydney Struwig & Hina Mermet - Sugar Monkey

Sugar Monkey Interior Design's mantra: Designing is a wonderful job which we believe must be done in freedom and with a clear mind. Design should be free from dogmatisms, preconceived ideas and academic influences. We use intelligence to skilfully orient the design in the right direction and manipulate influences so as to create new forms and direction which are exciting and unexpected. We believe that good design improves daily life at home and in the office which also enhances our leisure time. We are a creative design team that will transform your space by using innovative, cost effective and exciting solutions that will enrich your life and improve your business prospects." About the duo:

Sydney Struwig: "Design is my life and my passion. My style ranges between minimalism and maximalism, never predictable, never monotonous and always a surprise – expect the unexpected. I enjoy thinking out of the box and stretching the limits of design in order to create a fresh, inspired and eventful space. I have studied and lived in Cape Town (South Africa) and recently graduated from UNITEC with a Diploma in Interior Design."

Hina Mermet: "I have been passionate about art and design from a very young age and I enjoy the challenge of finding innovative design solutions. I have studied in Papeete (Tahiti), Los-Angeles (USA) and Paris (France) where I gained a Diploma in Graphic Design. I recently graduated from UNITEC with a Diploma in Interior Design. I am a curious individual, very energetic and highly motivated to apply my skills to challenging projects. "
